Beyond the Himalayas

Beyond the Himalayas

Day 1 & 2 kathmandu

Namaste! Welcome to Kathmandu, where history, culture, and energy await. Explore three UNESCO sites: Boudhanath Stupa, sacred Pashupatinath Temple, and historic Durbar Square. Stroll through bustling markets and ancient streets, soaking in the city’s vibrant charm. An unforgettable journey into Nepal’s rich heritage begins—immerse yourself in its magic!

Your journey continues deeper into the ancient past as you explore the twin heritage cities of Patan and Bhaktapur. These cities, rich in artistry and timeworn devotion, are like walking through living museums. In Patan, you’ll discover gilded courtyards and hidden artisan lanes, while Bhaktapur enchants with its medieval squares, towering temples, and age-old rituals. As the day winds down, you’ll visit Changu Narayan, Nepal’s oldest Hindu temple, perched high on a ridge as mist rolls in over terraced hills. This is where time seems to pause, and the quiet whispers of the valley settle into your soul.

After breakfast in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lhasa, Tibet’s capital, where your journey into this remote culture begins. Spend your first day acclimatizing to the high altitude and resting at your hotel. The next day, explore Lhasa’s iconic landmarks, including the hilltop Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Norbulingka—each a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit Barkhor Market for a cultural immersion. On day three, continue touring with visits to Sera Monastery and Norbulingka, returning to your hotel in time to unwind over dinner.

It’s time to leave Lhasa and journey to Gyantse, a charming agricultural town known for its wool production and remarkable Buddhist sites. En route, you’ll stop at the stunning Yamdrok Lake, where the vivid blue waters contrast beautifully with the rugged mountain landscape. After arriving in Gyantse, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace—whether that’s exploring the local market, soaking in the atmosphere, or simply relaxing at your hotel in preparation for the adventures ahead.

This morning, embark on a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Shigatse, with a stop to visit the impressive Kumbum Stupa. Upon reaching Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, your guide will take you to Tashilumpo Monastery, the largest and oldest of its kind in Tibet. After a thorough visit, explore the nearby market before checking into your hotel. Later, drive along the scenic Friendship Highway, passing Lhatse and the stunning Gyamtso La pass. The highlight of the day is Sakya Monastery, a 13th-century fortress housing over 84,000 Tibetan artifacts, before returning to Shigatse.

Today, journey back to Lhasa along the scenic highway, enjoying the beautiful landscapes on the way. The drive offers a peaceful experience, and you’ll arrive in the late afternoon. Once you reach Lhasa, check into your hotel, where you can unwind and take a well-deserved rest after your travels. The evening is free for you to relax, reflect on the journey, or enjoy some quiet time before you retire for the night, preparing for tomorrow’s adventures.

Enjoy your final breakfast in Lhasa before checking out of your hotel. Afterward, transfer to the international airport, marking the end of your journey in this extraordinary part of the world. Take a moment to reflect on your time here as you prepare to board your flight, heading to your next destination. Saying goodbye can be bittersweet, but the memories of Lhasa will stay with you as you continue your travels to new and exciting places.
